Overview

ActUp is a responsive web app designed to help users stay civically engaged through small, meaningful actions. The app combines gamified motivation with personal reflection tools, encouraging users to track their involvement in social causes through an interactive task system and a digital journal.

As the Product Manager and Developer, I led the frontend build while guiding the team’s technical integration plan, component breakdown, and iterative testing. The project required balancing technical accuracy, design consistency, and team time management under tight academic sprint deadlines.

The Challenge

Civic engagement can feel overwhelming — people want to help, but don’t know where to start.

We aimed to solve that by creating a platform that:

• Generates random, accessible engagement tasks
• Lets users track their contributions over time
• Encourages reflection and community sharing

The key challenge wasn’t conceptual — it was implementation: translating a collaborative Figma mockup and static HTML prototype into a dynamic, state-driven React application.

The Solution

ActUp is a React + Firebase application built with Vite for fast, modular development. It empowers users to:

• Spin the Engagement Wheel to receive random civic tasks
• Save and organize tasks in the “My Tasks” to-do list
